Come explore the history and nature of Coeur d'Alene's Old Mission State Park in Cataldo, ID! The Coeur d' Alene's Old Mission State Park spotlights the oldest building in Idaho. The Mission of the Sacred Heart was constructed between 1850 and 1853 by Catholic missionaries and members of the Coeur d' Alene Tribe. Listed on the National Register of Historic Places, the Sacred Heart Mission and the Coeur d'Alene's Old Mission State Park provide an educational experience not found anywhere else, giving visitors an opportunity to examine the dynamics and complexities between Jesuit missionaries and the tribal people among whom they settled in a beautiful park setting. The park features the Sacred Heart Mission church, a restored Parish House and a historic cemetery.
We have arranged a special Black Robe Presentation and video just for our group. The park also boasts of wetlands, a small pond, nature trails, a large picnic area, a dugout canoe, and a grist mill. The park features abundant wildlife, including moose, beaver, and all types of birds. Check out some of the regularly visiting creatures here.
Your group start time is 11:30 am. Your family can stay as long as you like. The park closes at 5:00 pm. Most visitors are at the park for about 2 hours. You will see the park history video and the Black Robe Presentation together as a group. After that, your family is free to roam the entire park and all of its buildings on your own. You can visit the Sacred Encounters museum section at any time.
