Mt. Spokane Cross-Country Ski/Snowmobile Park
Mt. Spokane State Park Map
We will meet at the place that says "Snowmobile Trailhead" on the map.
Parking: A Discover Pass is not required on this date because its National Trails Day.
We will park in the snow mobile gravel parking lot at the intersection of N. Mt. Spokane Park Dr and N. Summit Rd.
We'll begin with the Scat Snacks Game - an animal signs activity. In a zoo, there are signs that tell you what animal to look for, such as “Moose.” But in their natural habitat, animals don't stand next to a sign that labels them. However they do leave us clues as to who was there, in the form of scat. Come learn to identify some Palisades inhabitants by their scat. Just like a naturalist, look for real scat and tracks on our hike. We will give each aspiring scientist marshmallows, jelly beans and other foods, which have the same size and shape as some animal scat.
What to wear/bring: Dress for the weather and terrain. Bring snacks and water for yourself but not the wildlife. Wear insect repellent.
Note: There is an outhouse in the parking lot at the trail head but there is no running water.
Ages: All ages are welcome but it is recommended for kids and adults who can walk 1.5 miles in 1 hour on a rugged nature trail. The pace will be slow with lots of stops. The trail is not suitable for strollers or wheelchairs.
Cost: $3 per family. There is a $10 fee per family to register. $7 will be refunded after the trip as long as you show up.
