We begin our historic journey with an IMAX movie about Lewis & Clark. It was the dawn of a nation -- a time before the American West became known as the frontier, and little was known about what lay within. Two captains, courageous in spirit and unyielding in their dedication to their mission, led 31 people, including one woman and her infant son, to the Pacific Ocean and back. Now, 200 years after the launch of the expedition, this breathtaking drama is captured for audiences in the newest large-format release from National Geographic. Audiences will experience the danger and beauty of the unknown West as it unfolded before the eyes of Lewis and Clark.
Next we travel onward to the picnic tables in Riverfront Park for a sack lunch.
Finally we embark on fabulously fun and exciting educational activities to help us learn even more about the adventures of Lewis & Clark.
- We'll make our own compasses, like Lewis & Clark would have done.
- We'll learn to measure distance by dead reckoning, just like William Clark.
- We'll figure out how to measure speed in knots (as if we were in a boat.)
- We'll discover how to draw a map like a Mandan American Indian leader.
