Activities: archery, canoeing, a low ropes activity, a group game
3258 West Lutherhaven Road, Coeur d’Alene, ID
Lutherhaven has been helping young people adventure and learn outside for over 70 years. Our Outdoor Education programs provide groups with engaging, hands-on sessions taught by knowledgeable instructors so that students go home with a better understanding of our natural world, equipped with skills in communication, group dynamics, problem solving, math, science and goal setting. We’re committed to “no child left inside.” Something lasting and healthy happens when a child encounters the outdoors. We believe the best learning occurs when the heart, head and hands are all engaged through natural outdoor experiences.
Your whole family can explore the sparkling waters of Lake Coeur d’Alene with their entire adventure group in our 34 foot voyageur canoes. Learn how to work together as a group similar to the French explores from the 17th century who lived the life of fur trading. Hear some history, learn some canoeing skills and keep your eyes open for the wildlife swimming around you.
A ropes course is a challenging outdoor personal development and team building activity. Low elements take place on the ground or above the ground.
What to wear: weather appropriate clothes and closed toe shoes since the activities are outside.
What to bring: chairs and blankets to enjoy your lunch outside, lunch and drinks (weather permitting). In cold weather, you can eat your brown bag lunch in the dining hall.
Ages: Each activity is designed for grades K-12. All ages are welcome, as long as they can obey the rules and not distract the educators or other attendees. Since these activities are designed for K-12 kids, they will be given first priority for participation in each activity. If there is time, space, and supplies available, then preschoolers and parents can participate. For example, all the K-12 kids will be allowed to climb the Climbing Tower first as many times as they want, before any preschoolers or parents can try. There is almost never enough time for all the K-12 kids to climb as much as they want but if there is extra time preschoolers and parents can only try. Please ask a Lutherhaven staff member before letting your preschoolers participate in an activity to ensure there is time and space for them. Parents are encouraged to participate in the non-climbing/on the ground activities such as geocaching, forest ecology, orienteering, survival skills.
