Ages: All ages can watch. Since the climbing is in a rocky, forested area and the climbers are often walking between the climbing routes, keep that in mind as you consider whether to bring your littlest ones. You cannot see all the climbing locations from one spot.  You have to move around the rocks and forest to get from one climbing area to another.  All ages, including adults, can climb on any date.

When registering your climbers, here is how to sign up:
For an adult and her 3 kids, the adult would only register the people who are going to climb.  The first climber goes under the "Climber Info" section.  Then under "Additional Climber Information" at the bottom of the form, she would select "3" in the drop down box.  No registration is needed for non-climbers.

Cost: Stan and his volunteer belayers do not charge a fee to climb or watch but "gifts" are appreciated to help with their expenses.  The Busbys drive 80 miles one way from Ione, WA, just for this activity.  (Just an FYI, Spokane Parks & Rec offers outdoor private guided group climbing day trips starting at $180 and youth climbing camps are $40 per day per kid. Mountain Gear offers 2 hour climbing classes for $20.)  Please don't let money (or the lack thereof) keep you from coming.

Donation Options: You can give your donation to Exploring Families or Climbers With Christ.  Be sure to make a note that your money is for Climbers With Christ. You can mail a check made payable to Stan Busby, Climbers With Christ, PO Box 154, Ione, WA 99139.

All safety equipment is provided which includes harnesses, carabiners, ropes, helmets, climbing shoes, experienced belayers with brakes, and the anchors to which the ropes are connected.  Stan says, "It is more dangerous driving to the park than rock climbing when using their equipment."

What to bring: lunch, camera, comfortable outdoor recreation shoes, climbing shoes if you have them, weather appropriate clothes, jacket, hat, water, sunscreen, bug repellant.
  • Climbers With Christ has a variety of climbing shoes to borrow but come ready to climb in your best hiking/outdoor shoes in case there aren't enough shoes in your size.
  • We recommend wearing pants or capris (not shorts) that you don't mind getting roughed up.  The rocks can tear up your knees, shins, and elbows.  You might want to consider a shirt that goes past your elbows. Basically, the rocks are rough and dirty so wear clothes that can get dirty and scraped.
  • If you have long hair, braids are best, ponytails are ok.  Stan tells the story of his experienced rock climber friend who got her hair, up to her scalp, tangled in her ropes.  The welts on her head eventually healed and her hair, that had to be cut off at her scalp, eventually grew back.
  • You may want to bring a blanket and/or chairs to sit on while you are watching the climbers or waiting your turn to climb.

Release forms must be filled out for all climbers (kids and adults) before beginning. You can you can print and sign the Release forms below ahead of time (ideal) or sign the forms when you arrive.
 Release - child
 Release - adult

Tour limits:  25 climbers per day.  No limit on non-climbers.
