At a private farm in Reardan
Snowshoe through wheat fields
Saturday, January 28, 2017, 10 am - 4 pm
At Theodore's Thicket in Colbert
Snowshoe through fields and forests
What to bring:
- Snowshoes if you have them. No problem if you don't! There will be 25 pairs of snowshoes to share.
- Snow clothes and snow boots. REI has good suggestions on what to wear here, or just contact us.
- Finger foods, snacks, or appetizers to share (optional). Hot chocolate and hot cider will be provided.
Note: Climbers With Christ snowshoe sizes are youth, small adult (ideal for 80+ lbs), and large adult (up to 250 lbs). They have 20 adult pairs and 5 youth pairs. The reason to wear snowshoes is so that you can climb steep mountains or so that you don't sink in deep or fresh snow. Obviously, the heavier you are, the more you sink in fresh or deep snow. Regular snow boots do fine on already established (packed snow) trails, where even only 1-2 people have snowshoed before. Light weight people (kids) will do fine without snowshoes on the basicly flat trails for this event. Older kids will do well in the bigger snowshoes even if they aren't close to 80 lbs yet. I've used snowshoes that were supposedly too big and too small for me and I've never had a problem (or even noticed any difference walking around.) Climbers With Christ offers many family snowshoe and hiking events every winter and these are the same snowshoes they use for all sizes of kids and adults. Costco sells snowshoes in 2 adult sizes in their stores. Costco.com has boy, girl, men, and women snowshoes. REI Spokane rents and sells snowshoes in adult and youth sizes. The youth size is for kids up to about 100 lbs.
